The mega-popular boy group is preparing to host a comeback live event on Netflix — the same streaming platform behind the hit film KPop Demon Hunters. As part of the promotion, the platform had two of the movie’s stars send a message cheering on the group.

In the video, Cho and Rei Ami introduce themselves to the BTS members and share their excitement for the long-awaited comeback. During the message, the two also credit BTS for helping make projects like KPop Demon Hunters possible, saying the movie may not have existed if the group hadn’t “paved the way.

They also referenced the film’s fictional girl group Huntrix, joking that the characters now “need some BTS.”

We know there wouldn’t have been a KPop Demon Hunters if you hadn’t paved the way. And we’ve done our best, but the Honmoon need some BTS now.

While ARMYs were naturally delighted with the compliments, the tow stars have set off some controversy among international K-Pop fans. Many claim they should’ve credited a girl group instead.

Others said the comment overlooked earlier generations of K-Pop artists who also helped grow the industry.

The reactions quickly spread across social media, turning what appeared to be a simple promotional message into a controversial topic.
