A 15-year-old girl has been arrested following her father’s harrowing discovery.
According to police, her father went outside to do yardwork on the evening of March 15. While digging up soil in the garden to remove weeds, he saw what appeared to be an infant’s leg and foot. He notified the police, who uncovered the body of a deceased baby boy, his umbilical cord, and part of the mother’s placenta.
On March 16, the Gyoda Police Station in Japan’s Saitama Prefecture arrested the man’s 15-year-old daughter on suspicion of abandoning a corpse. While in custody, she told investigators that she gave birth alone at home. She also reportedly admitted to the charges, saying, “I buried him because I couldn’t hide him in my room.”
The girl’s family members told police that they didn’t know about her pregnancy or her son’s birth. Police have stated that there were no visible external injuries on the body, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
