An actress who became a trending topic after undergoing a transformation that left her unrecognizable, according to some netizens, is now addressing the matter.

Zhang Tian’ai (also known as Crystal Zhang) is a 37-year-old Chinese actress and model best known for her breakout role in the 2015 hit web-drama Go Princess Go. Her visuals drew attention recently, when Zhang returned for the seventh season of the reality show Sisters Who Make Waves. 

Netizens reportedly claimed that Zhang’s appearance had changed drastically and speculated that the actress may have undergone cosmetic procedures, such as fillers, or swelling due to illness. After the hashtags related to her appearance trended on Chinese social media, Zhang responded to the speculation via social media.

She said she gained weight for her role in a new movie, Just Kidding, and that when she saw some screenshots, even she couldn’t believe how different she looked.

I came out during the livestream to get some air, and the sky has fallen. Seeing the screenshots, even I don’t recognize myself! I have to say the aftereffect of Just Kidding is too strong.
