YG’s identity was always Teddy.”

The YG Entertainment girl group released the song as the title track for their third mini-album on May 4.

Soon after release, a post went viral on Pann, full of scathing criticism not only of BABYMONSTER but also of YG Entertainment.

BABYMONSTER’s new song… isn’t this just too much?

They’ve come out with yet another painfully generic BLACKPINK copycat song. And of course they’ve shoved in another group chorus at the end. Does their company lock them up somewhere and keep them from listening to other artists’ music?

In a way, you’ve got to respect the stubbornness. Fine, just keep doing whatever you want.

Unfortunately, netizens in the comments also agreed with the criticism. Many mentioned how Teddy’s absence is felt, while others claimed that Yang Hyun Suk himself should stay out of production processes.

  • “YG’s identity was always Teddy. Yang Hyun Suk should just stay out of it…”
  • “The problem is Yang Hyun Suk and his old-guard crew. He refuses to let go of those dinosaurs. The song is literally called ‘Dance,‘ but there’s not a single memorable moment in the choreography, and the outfits are just as predictable. But then you listen to the b-sides where Yang Hyun Suk has less of a hand in things, and you can’t give up hope just yet.”
  • “The beat is just way too dated. Total trot/old-school vibes.”
  • “I’m genuinely curious what the 10 choreographer teams they commissioned are thinking after watching BAEMON’s MV lol. Apparently, YG rejected all of them because they weren’t happy with any of it and ended up doing the choreography themselves.”
  • “Dance dance dance dance, drip drip drip drip. Just self-plagiarism on repeat.”
