Former NCT Mark’s Accused Of Being “Cult-Like” And “Crazy Over Religion” After Establishing His Own Label

He’s always been vocal about his religion.

Former NCT‘s Mark is drawing attention after launching his own one-person agency, with the company’s name becoming the subject of online debate.

The idol recently established a new agency called Upper Room, where he will reportedly serve as both artist and co-CEO. However, shortly after the announcement, netizens began discussing the meaning behind the name.

According to online posts and the company’s socials itself, “Upper Room” refers to the Upper Room of Jerusalem, a significant location in Christianity. It is traditionally believed to be the place where Jesus held the Last Supper with his disciples and where the descent of the Holy Spirit occurred following the Resurrection.

Some fans viewed the name as a natural reflection of Mark’s well-known Christian faith, but expressed their shock at how intensely he was into it.

Makes me reflect deeply. Have I ever been so crazy about anything?

Some even accused it of being similar to a cult.

Why does this smell like a cult?

Some are even finding it “repulsive.”

Wow, it’s so serious that I’m getting repulsed by it FR.

Others, however, questioned whether such an explicitly religious reference was appropriate for an entertainment company.

Mark… Are you sure you’re trying to become an idol? Aren’t you setting up a church or something at this rate?

Despite the debate, many fans noted that Mark’s faith has long been an important part of his identity, making the choice unsurprising.

The discussion has since gone viral across Korean online communities, with netizens continuing to debate whether the agency name is a meaningful personal statement or an unexpectedly religious choice for a modern entertainment company.
