[★VIDEO] Jonghyun reveals IU’s “Gloomy Clock” was originally for him

SHINee’s Jonghyun, who has recently swept music charts with his self-composed solo mini-album Base, revealed on the recent episode of Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook that IU’sGloomy Clock” was actually written for him, and performed a short excerpt of the track on the show.

When asked about his recent producing works by Yoo Hee Yeol, Jonghyun replied, “I made IU’s ‘Gloomy Clock’ to include it in my own album. After I made the song, I e-mailed IU to ask her opinion on the arrangement for the song, but she asked me to give the song to her instead. The song was sold within three hours.

“Gloomy Clock” was released in 2013 on IU’s album Modern Times, and featured Jonghyun’s vocals on the track.

Jonghyun also revealed his close relationship with IU on the show as well. As Yoo Hee Yeol jokingly asked, “You talk to IU that late at night?,” he playfully responded by saying, “I started writing at night and sent it to her in the daytime,” but also admitted that he was thankful for being able to create a good relationship with IU through the song.

Jonghyun went on to sing his own version of “Gloomy Clock” on the broadcast, receiving praise from the audience.
