Here Are 6 Book Recommendations By BTS’s RM That Will Make You Seem Super Smart

BTS leader RM is widely known for his love of reading, and high intelligence. He’s oftentimes recommended books for ARMYs to read in the past, and has even based concepts and lyrics for BTS’s songs based off of novels that he’s read.

Here’s a list of 6 books that RM has recommended to fans, or has been spotted reading!

1. Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

Written in 1915, this book is one of Kafka’s most famous works. It follows the character Gregor Samsa after he goes through a strange “metamorphosis”, and how he deals with the consequences personally and with his family.

2. Those Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin

This short story is part of a larger collection of stories in The Wind’s Twelve Quarters. The philosophical story actually helped inspire the music video for “Spring Day”, and takes place in a utopian-like community where everyone else’s prosperity relies on one child’s misery.

3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Many people may have heard of this story from the movie of the same title, starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. The book is a romance story, following the characters William Traynor, a paralyzed banker, and Louisa Clark, his caretaker, as they meet during an important time in their respective lives and fall in love.

4. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

Murakami is an author that RM has been known to read works from before. This story is a coming-of-age tale and follows a boy named Kafka, who runs away from home to escape the abuse of his father.  He meets an older man, Satoru Nakata, and the book follows them as their lives connect to one another.

5. Please Look After Mom by Shin Kyung-Sook

This book has won the Man Asian Literary Prize, given to the best English-written or translated book of the year by an Asian author between 2007-2012. The story follows a family in search of their missing mother after she’s separated from her husband at the Seoul subway station and includes themes of loss, self-discovery, and self–recrimination.

6. A Bigger Message: Conversations with David Hockney by Martin Gayford

RM is known for his love of art, and this book is an autobiography of the famous British painter David Hockney. He’s known for his work in creating art in nearly every medium, from painting to photography and even opera set designs.
