Actor Lee Jin Wook Reveals How He Landed His Role For The Hit Netflix Show ‘Sweet Home’

It was a new challenge for him.

Actor Lee Jin Wook, who is known for his more mellow-drama roles, took on a huge challenge with his character in the Netflix series Sweet Home.

This was a challenge for me too. It feels like I’ve succeeded when I receive positive results after a new challenge. It felt like the first time I was cast for a drama.

Sweet Home is a Netflix Original series that was released on December 18 and is based off of a webtoon that shows the life of a loner Cha Hyun Soo. Lee Jin Wook plays the role of Pyeon Sang Wook, a former contract killer.

What made you decide to take on the role in “Sweet Home”

The setting in which the desire of each individual was expressed as a monster was a new and refreshing concept. Their stories and process of turning into a monster was dramatic. The stories of each of the characters were good at expressing modern society as well. I thought that we could show a good story together with all the other great actors. And the biggest reason was because I had always wanted to work with director Lee Eung Bok the most.

Your massive transformation for the show received much praise

We are very grateful for all the good responses after the release of the drama. I breathed a sigh of relief. I am so happy to receive a good evaluation of my character. This character was something that you wouldn’t think Lee Jin Wook would do, and I worked really hard in order to express this role well. Pyeon Sang Wook lived a life like a monster and showed a man who became a monster trying to become human, who ultimately chooses to become human. I am so happy to receive such good praise. Actors like me, who have acted since they were young, will find praise like this to be success. It feels like when I was cast in my first drama when I was young.

What if “Sweet Home” aired a season 2?

I have a lot of regrets personally. Since it was only a 10-episode series, we weren’t able to express all the characters enough for the viewers to fully understand. If a season 2 was produced, it would be possible to show the development process of Pyeon Sang Wook’s complex and subtle emotions. I want to see the growth of the other characters too. Although not as much as the director, I have grown quite an attachment to the other actors. I want to act with them and grow together.
