As the end of the year draws near, let us take a look back at the achievements of the K-Pop music industry from 2014!
Winning first place on the weekly music shows certainly has a symbolic significance for the singers. On the one hand, their singing abilities are being recognized, while on the other hand, it reflects the popularity of the artists. Some groups may take only a few months after debut to earn their first trophy on music programs, while others may take a couple of years to get the recognition.
The weekly music shows for 2014 include SBS MTV The Show: All About K-POP Season 4, MBC Show Champion, Mnet M!Countdown, KBS Music Bank, and SBS Inkigayo, airing from Tuesday through Sunday respectively. From January 1st to November 30th 2014, there have been a total of 219 trophies handed out through the various music programs. Although the broadcasting channels hold different criteria for awarding the number one trophy, it is of no doubt that the weekly winners are full of joy once they lay hands on the winning spot.
Just in 2014 alone, BEAST has brought home 19 trophies, the most number of wins for the year. They claimed 11 trophies with “Good Luck” starting in June and 8 more with the recently concluded promotions for “12:30”.
Following BEAST, Soyou and Junggigo took 11 trophies with their duet “Some,” and Akdong Musician, who just debuted this year, won 10 trophies with “200%,” winning #1 for 4 consecutive weeks. Coming in fourth place is a tie between Taeyang, Girls’ Generation, and Super Junior with “Eyes, Noes, Lips,” “Mr.Mr.,” and “MAMACITA” respectively, winning 9 trophies for each song. Closely following behind is TVXQ with 7 wins, while Apink and WINNER tie with 6 wins, and Kyuhyun scored 5 trophies alongside labelmates TaeTiSeo and f(x).
