Groom Elopes With Mother-In-Law Before His Wedding, Devastating The Bride
What began as a love story turned into something else entirely for one jilted bride-to-be. Just ten days before the wedding, the love of her life eloped…with her mother.

Shivani, the bride, planned to tie the knot on April 16. On April 6, however, she realized that her fiancé, Rahul, and her mother had fled from their village, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This wasn’t just an elopement though — it was also a heist.

Rahul and Shivani’s mother stole cash and jewellery from her family, valued at ₹85,000 (approximately $1,003.87) before they left. Shivani and her father have filed a missing persons report in the hopes of getting their valuables back.
I just want our belongings back. Whether they live or die, it does not matter to us anymore.
— Shivani
How did this all happen? Were there signs? According to Shivani’s father, the answer is yes. During the time leading up to the elopement, he noticed that Rahul spent “nearly 20 to 22 hours a day” talking to his wife rather than talking to Shivani. Naturally, this made Shivani’s father a little suspicious about his wife’s relationship with Rahul.

Shivani believed that her ex-fiancé manipulated her mother, whom she has been unable to reach by phone. “My mother did everything exactly as that man told her to,” she said. “He manipulated her completely.”
Her father did, however, manage to get in contact with Rahul, who told him to “forget about her” and that he had “troubled his wife for 20 years.” After that conversation, Shivani and her father couldn’t get in touch with either of the elopers; they had switched their phones off.
