Fan’s Chilling Messages Scare A Teenage Idol Into Canceling Her Public Appearances
A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sending messages to a teenage idol to intimidate her.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Oshida Kotaro has been a fan of the unidentified female idol for several years. Oshida, who was accused of sending five threatening Instagram messages to the idol in March, admitted to the charges at the time of his arrest. He was arrested on suspicion of making threats and obstruction of business.
I thought she was cute. I wanted her to understand how hurt I was.
— Oshida Kotato
The female idol, who is managed by the Japanese agency Avex, canceled three scheduled events, including ones in Osaka and Tokyo, after Oshida DMed her on Instagram. She is now taking time off for her mental and physical well-being.

The police, who are still investigating Oshida’s internet activity and his phone, have released some of his chilling messages. In them, he threatened to harm the idol at her event:
- “Go die.”
- “I’m really going to the event.”
- “This isn’t just a threat.”
The police are taking Oshida’s threats seriously, but unfortunately, that hasn’t always been the case.
