Because of his visuals, more than one post about him went viral, as many were unaware of who he was and asked for more information.

However, along with this came discussions of his past scandal.

On June 26, 2023, a netizen claimed that he had a one-night stand with a woman, leading to her pregnancy in 2021, and later abortion his baby. The woman claimed to have been threatened by his mother, who even installed a CCTV in front of her door to monitor her actions. The woman showed abortion certificates to prove it.

On July 3, 2023, Cai XuKun spoke up on Weibo, stating that the relationship was between two consensual adults and that the abortion was voluntary and agreed upon. However, due to censorship in China, the star was “soft-banned.”

In April 2025, the idol won defamation cases against those who spread the forced abortion rumors online and saw a wider return to activities.

Despite this, many still shared messages criticizing the idol after his viral Met Gala moment.

Fans of the idol also responded, citing his legal win and showing continued support.

Cai XuKun most recently released a self-titled album featuring “Cold.”
