Highly Anticipated Series Crashes And Burns With Record-Low Viewership Rating
What was supposed to be a historic comeback for a popular franchise has become a flop, according to the latest viewership ratings.

Rebirth is a Chinese historical fantasy drama and the sequel to Princess Agents, a 2017 C-Drama. Princess Agents became the first Chinese drama to surpass 40 billion views while still airing, and it gained international popularity. As such, the bar was set high for Rebirth, a revenge quest in which the heroine navigates war, politics, and romance.
Despite having brand power, high-quality visuals, and a star-studded cast that includes Huangyang Tian Tian, Li Yun Rui, and Zhang Kang Le, Rebirth has reportedly plunged to an abysmally low 2.9 rating on Douban, a prominent Chinese social networking and interest-sharing platform.

The fall of Rebirth has reportedly been caused by several factors, including Huangyang’s ongoing controversies. such as being called out for wearing knock-off earrings. The acting in Rebirth, pacing issues, storytelling, and Princess Agents‘ star Zhao Li Ying‘s refusal to be associated with the sequel have also been cited as reasons for the series’ underperformance.
Although it isn’t uncommon for series to receive low ratings, a score below 3.0 on Douban is reportedly very rare, almost unheard of, in Chinese television history. Fewer than ten have ever fallen below 3.0.
