Insanely Rich Male Singer Spends $20 Million On A Rare Item
A superstar’s latest purchase is proving he has plenty of cash to burn.
Jay Chou is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, actor, director, and businessman, known as the “King of Mandopop”. He also has a love for art that would bankrupt most of the population. Chou has reportedly acquired a rare painting by artist Henri Matisse for $20 million USD.

The artwork, titled The Morning Session or La Séance du matin was completed in 1924 during the artist’s celebrated Nice period. It was reportedly sold at a Sotheby’s auction, where bidding ultimately reached $20 million USD.
The 47-year-old musician confirmed the purchase on Instagram by sharing close-up clips of the painting. In his caption, Jay reflected on a past visit to Nice, France, where he once stood outside Matisse’s former residence, imagining the legendary artist gazing at the sunlight before heading back inside to paint another masterpiece. He also revealed that owning a work from Matisse’s Nice era had long been a personal dream.
Jay has frequently displayed his passion for fine art over the years, publicly showing pieces by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat in his Taiwan home. Several of those artworks have also quietly appeared in his music videos and other creative projects.
