Beloved Idol Announces She’s Leaving Her Top Girl Group After 12 Years

She’s been a member since she was 15 years old.

Mukaichi Mion is a longtime member of AKB48, a popular Japanese idol girl group. Prior to joining the group in 2013, Mion was a child actress. She is best known for portraying Mio Sato in Unfair, a Japanese television series and film franchise.

On December 12, Mion announced that she will be leaving AKB48 next year, after her graduation concert on April 3, 2026. The announcement, which was made during AKB48’s 20th Anniversary Budokan concert in Akihabara, comes as AKB48 closes out their 20th anniversary celebrations.

During her announcement, Mion reportedly reminisced about her time with AKB48, which began when she was just 15 years old, and the group’s ever-evolving history. She hopes that fans will stay with her during her “last chapter of youth” until she leaves AKB48.
