Controversial Star Gets Awkwardly Deleted From Variety Show

A singer-actor who once attracted attention on a vocal competition show has reportedly been deleted from Hello, Saturday.

In 2018, Shi Kai competed as a vocalist on Super Vocal, Season 1, wherein he performed for a panel of judges, including Henry Lau. Shi Kai went on to release his first solo digital single in 2019. He has also acted in three shows and appeared as a guest and/or a regular cast member in over a dozen variety shows and reality shows.

Shi Kai is a regular guest on Hello, Saturday, a light-hearted Chinese variety show that features celebrities. However, he has been noticeably absent from recent episodes. He was reportedly edited out by the show’s production team, due to his controversy, making it seem as if some people on the show were speaking to an “invisible guest” at times.

On Weibo, a netizen claiming to be the sister of Shi Kai’s ex-girlfriend, Yiyi, accused Shi Kai of cheating on Yiyi and mistreating her emotionally. According to the alleged sister, Shi Kai and Yiyi got engaged last year on February 28, but broke up soon after. As evidence, she provided a low-quality video clip and audio, which she claimed were taken at the engagement party. Internet sleuths, however, were quick to discredit the proof by pointing out that the timelines don’t match up; Shi Kai was reportedly filming elsewhere–in Shanghai–at that time, and the footage was supposedly taken at a friend’s wedding, not the alleged engagement party.

Even so, public sentiment has reportedly been mixed, with Shi Kai’s image taking a hit. His legal representatives have denied the allegations and are taking legal action, calling the rumors defamation.
