Monster Rookies aespa Achieve All Their Goals For The Year Within 2 Months Of Debut

These girls are on fire!

In a debut interview with Japanese magazine ViVi, the members of SM Entertainment‘s newest girl group aespa were asked what targets they’re aiming for over the coming years. Now, within just two months of their “Black Mamba” debut, all four members have already achieved their individual goals.

1. Ningning

When maknae and main vocalist Ningning was asked what her goal for the year was, she shared that she wants “to show you the powerful energy that only aespa has“.

Arguably, Ningning’s goal was achieved from the day aespa debuted. In contrast to the agency’s previous girl group debut singles, “Black Mamba” had a distinctive and powerful hook.

As the members sang about protecting their world from a black mamba, they showed off equally intense dance skills that proved just how unique their energy is.

2. Winter

Given that aespa debuted towards the end of 2020, it’s no surprise that visual Winter’s ambition was to perform at one of Korea’s end-of-year festivals—more commonly known as the Gayos.

Of course, Winter didn’t just achieve her goal at one festival. Aespa got to perform alongside their seniors at all three three: MBC‘s Gayo Daejejeon,

3. Karina

Karina, the group’s leader and main dancer, had her sights set on awards shows. She told ViVi that she really wanted to win a “Rookie of the Year” award in 2021.

But, aespa actually managed to win their first trophy in 2020, when they won “Best New Artist (Overseas)” at the Asian Pop Music Awards.

They then went on to win “New Artist of the Year – Digital” at the Gaon Chart Music Awards in January 2021.

4. Giselle

Last but not least, main rapper Giselle had a pretty lofty ambition: to win first place on a music show. While it’s not unheard of for groups to score a music show win with their debut song, it takes many more groups months, or even years.

At first, it seemed like aespa might not get their first win until their next comeback. However, against all odds, the group managed to win on SBS’s Inkigayo on January 17, 2021—exactly two months after their debut.

Sadly, the aespa members weren’t there to accept their award, but fans can only imagine how much they celebrated back at their dorm.
