18 BTS Slang Words And Phrases That Only ARMY Will Understand

Definitions of key ARMY terms to add to your fandom vocab.

Over the last 6 years, ARMY has developed their own colorful language based on quotes, iconic moments, and inside jokes from the BTS fandom. If you’ve incorporated this BTS slang into your vocabulary, you are deep in the fandom! Good luck escaping.

1. ARMY

If you’re new to the fandom, you might not be aware that “ARMY” is actually an acronym for “Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth”. It sounds a bit dorky, but its meaning is heartwarming. “M.C.” (master of ceremonies) is a term used for top-level rappers who are masters at their craft. This indicates how important ARMY is to BTS. It also suggests that ARMYs are youth leaders who, like BTS, are paving the way for their generation.

2. Bingsman

This is play on the word “Kingman”, as in the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service. In the film, a kingsman is a skilled secret agent. In Episode 26 of Run BTS! , BTS became “bingsmen”, secret agents who had to avoid lasers and more to complete a game.

3. BST

No, that’s not a typo. “BST” stands for the song “Blood, Sweat & Tears”.

4. Fire 333

This refers to a specific dance move in “FIRE” that is the song’s highlight. It happens at the 3:33 mark, like so.

5. Hixtape

“Hixtape” refers to any mixtape produced by J-Hope (Hoseok).

6. HYYH

This is possibly one of the most-searched BTS slang phrases. “HYYH” stands for “Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa”, which translates to: “The Most Beautiful Moment In Life”. The “HYYH era” stems from BTS’s albums (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 and The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt.2). BTS’s Save Me webtoon, The Notes, and many of BTS’s music videos are all part of the HYYH storyline.

7. “I know her face, but I don’t know her name”

Jungkook once said this in an interview when asked to name his Hollywood crush. When asked which movie she starred in, he said, “I know movie, but I don’t know movie name”. Many ARMYs believe this was a smooth and successful attempt at dodging the question. This quote is often parodied, like when Jungkook recently remembered snack but not snack name on Run BTS!.

8. Infires

“Infires” is as iconic as it gets. Suga and Jungkook had a lot of fun teasing fluent English speaker RM by mispronouncing “inspires” in this old interview.

9. International Playboy

Jungkook once called himself an international playboy while loosely translating his lines from “Bulletproof Pt. 2” into English. It became the basis for a long-running joke that claims Jungkook is shy around girls.

10. I Purple You

V coined this phrase to express his love for ARMY. Since purple is the last color of the rainbow, he says that it means he will trust and love his fans for a long time.

11. Jams

This is the most iconic word in ARMY’s dictionary. In the early days, RM told Jimin that he has “no jams”, while they were on a plane. “Jaem” is Korean for “fun”, so by saying “Jimin, you have no jams”, RM was telling Jimin ‘you’re no fun’.

12. Jimin Effect

Urban Dictionary defines The Jimin Effect as “a short circuit that happens in the wiring of the brain when one first experiences a visual encounter with BTS’s Park Jimin”. Jimin causes everyone who looks upon him to feel pure joy and fall madly in love with him.

13. Jungshook

ARMY combined “Jungkook” and “shook” to express any time Jungkook has this expression. Synonyms include “Jungkook.exe has stopped working”.

14. LeJINdary

“LeJINdary” is a pun on Jin‘s name and the word “legendary”. Any iconic moment Jin is responsible for is “leJINdary”.

15. Our President

RM’s leadership skills, awareness of social justice, and eloquent public speaking have led to his election as ARMY’s president.

16. Stob it

While teasing Jimin in a livestream, Jin said “hey, stop it”, but it sounded more like “stob it”. So, if you see “stob it” on Twitter, it’s probably not a typo!

17. Snakeu

“Snakeu” is the boa constrictor BTS once posed with at a zoo. Snakeu is also J-Hope’s nemesis.

18. Three Dollar

In an episode of BTS’s 2014 show American Hustle Life, BTS practiced their pick up lines. To impress his “date”, Suga said, “You like this chain? Three dollar”. Although this happened years ago, it’s even funnier now than it was back then because BTS’s members are now rich AF.
