BTS Have Donated Almost 1 Billion Won To Children In Need—Here Are All The Causes They’ve Helped

They’re true charity angels.

The BTS members may be some of the highest earning idols of all time, but they don’t keep all those riches to themselves. Instead, they do so much for charity. As of right now, BTS’s donations to children’s funds over the years total a staggering ₩950 million KRW—around $800,000 USD—which doesn’t even include non-cash donations and times they’ve donated privately. Take a look at 9 times the members donated to charity and the causes they helped.

1. J-Hope (2018) – 150 million won

In December 2018, J-Hope donated ₩150 million KRW ($125,000 USD) to the Gwangju branch of ChildFund Korea, the biggest Korean organization for children’s welfare. The money was used to support students attending J-Hope’s former high school.

2. J-Hope (2019) – 100 million won

In February 2019, J-Hope donated a further ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the ChildFund Korea’s Gwanju branch to support children at his alma mater.

3. Suga (2019) – 100 million won

In March 2019, Suga donated ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation. He made the donation under the name “ARMY” and added 329 BT21 Shooky dolls to the pool. The money was used to fund treatments, surgeries, therapy, and schooling for children diagnosed with cancer.

4. Jimin (2019) – 100 million won

In April 2019, Jimin donated ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education. The money was used to provide lunch and educational materials to low-income students in Jimin’s hometown. ₩30 million KRW ($25,000 USD) was allocated specifically to Jimin’s old high school, Busan High School of Arts.

5. Jimin (2019) – 100 million won

In May 2019, Jimin made a second donation of ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education. The money was used to support students from low-income families across 16 schools in the region.

6. J-Hope (2019) – 100 million won

In May 2019, J-Hope donated a further ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Gwangju brand of ChildFund Korea. The money was given to Choontae Academy, the foundation which owns J-Hope’s old high school. It was then distributed as scholarships for 10 outstanding low-income students to attend Jeonnam Girls’ Commercial High School for 5 years.

7. RM (2019) – 100 million won

In September 2019, RM donated ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Seoul Samsung School. The money was used by the school’s Special Education for the Hearing Impaired department to teach music to deaf students.

8. J-Hope (2020) – 100 million won

In August 2020, J-Hope made yet another ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) donation to ChildFund Korea. The money will be used to help vulnerable children, especially those who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

9. Jimin (2020) – 100 million won

In August 2020, Jimin donated ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to the Jeonnam Office of Education. The money will be used as scholarship funds for students in South Jeolla province, marking the first time Jimin has donated money to children outside of his hometown.
