5 Self-Improvement Lessons BTS Jungkook Took To Impress ARMYs With New Skills

He learned three of these skills during the pandemic!

BTS Jungkook is a perfectionist on a never-ending quest for new things to learn and master. He doesn’t believe in resting on his laurels and always finds lessons that will lead to new skills to show ARMYs. He once gave sound advice about effort, something applicable to all ages.

Effort makes you. You’ll regret it someday if you don’t do your best now. I don’t think it’s too late but keep working on it. It may take time, but nothing gets worse when you practice. You may get sad, but it’s evidence that you are doing good.

— Jungkook, BTS Begins Program Book

Jungkook follows his advice and makes a lot of effort to improve himself. He took on lessons or classes to keep reinventing himself to always have something new to show ARMYs. Here are five skills he is learning as part of his self-improvement journey.

1. English lessons to handle interviews better

Jungkook has been trying to be more fluent in English and took lessons whenever time permitted. Despite his busy schedule, he tried to squeeze lessons in because he wanted to communicate with ARMYs better and be more articulate when facing media for interviews in English. In one of his live broadcasts, he shared with fans the progress of his English lessons and the new words he learned.

2. Boxing lessons to improve core strength and stamina

Workouts can sometimes be tedious and repetitive, especially if done alone. Jungkook knew this but was also aware that he needed to build stamina to endure their rigorous schedules during concert tours. He chose boxing because it is interactive, where he works with a one-on-one coach who tagged along on his trips abroad. Jungkook’s boxing videos are always well-received by fans.

3. Self-studied playing the guitar

Jungkook purchased an acoustic guitar on the internet and tried learning to play it on his own. On the first BTS In The SOOP series, Jungkook was seen enjoying some alone time in his room, strumming his guitar. Hopefully, on one of their live performances, he can show off his acquired guitar skills.

4. He’s learning to play the drums

BTS was invited to perform last year at MusiCares’ Music on a Mission virtual concert and Jungkook amazed everyone watching that he could play the drums! He always has surprises up his sleeve, and this was one of the surprises that got ARMYs so stoked. Even just video clips of him carrying around his drumsticks already excite ARMYs, and he did commit that once he’s ready, he would show off his drum skills.

5. Jungkook is dabbling in House Dance

Jungkook decided his dancing skills still needed further versatility and signed up for house dance lessons. House Dance isn’t a new genre; it has been around since the early 80s in underground Chicago and New York clubs. The intricate footwork combines Tap, African dance, Latin dance, and martial arts. Jungkook has been seen trying to incorporate house dance into his freestyle dancing in their recent concerts and J-Hope‘s Listening Party.

It is impressive that the last three skills Jungkook embarked on were during the pandemic. Some of these lessons are still ongoing, a non-stop learning process for him. Though he admitted to being saddened by the pandemic, he used his time away from the concert tours to learn these new skills and return to performing for ARMYs better than ever.
