BTS Just Turned 5: Here Are Some Of Their Most Important Milestones

Congratulations BTS and ARMY for 5 years together!

The K-Pop group that has taken over the world is celebrating a major milestone. BTS debuted on June 13, 2013 and were relatively unknown. Fast forward 5 years and they are now breaking records left and right as well as taking over the whole world! They’ve won countless awards and have one of the biggest fanbases so, in celebration of their big birthday, here is a list of some of their very best moments since debut!

 

1. The day it all started

BTS debuted with “No More Dream”. The song entered the World Digital Charts a few days later, peaking at no. 14 and stayed on the chart for three consecutive weeks.

 

2. 2 Cool 4 Skool

BTS’s debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool peaked at no. 10 on July’s Gaon Monthly Album Chart. It also became the 65th best-selling album on the Gaon Album Chart for 2013.

 

3. New Artist of the Year Award

2013 was also the year the boys were able to take home their first New Artist of the Year Award. They would go on to win the award again at the Gaon Chart Music Awards and the Seoul Music Awards in 2014.

 

4. Skool Luv Affair

In 2014, the group released their Skool Luv Affair EP which went on to peak at no. 3 on the World Album charts.

 

5. Their first win

2015 was a big year of awards for the group. They won the Gaon World Rookie Award, Melon Best Male Dancers Award, Mnet Asian Music Award for Worldwide Performer, and perhaps most impressively, took home their first win on the music program The Show with their title track “I Need U.”

 

6. First tour outside of Korea

That same year, BTS held their first tour in Japan. They also released their Japanese single “For You” which sold over 42,600 copies the first day and topped the Oricon chart.

 

7.  Making onto the list of “27 Best Albums of 2015”

The group wasn’t done with 2015 yet! Fuse Magazine listed The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Part 1 as one of the “27 Best Albums of 2015.” It was the only Korean album that was listed!

 

8. Wings tops the charts

Wings all-kill!

From there BTS released their Wings album. The album turned out to be a big deal for the group. They received an all-kill on Korean charts, ranked no. 1 on Billboard’s 10 Best K-Pop Albums of 2016: Critic’s Pick List, became the highest ranked K-Pop group on Billboard’s Digital Albums Chart, entered the United Kingdom’s Official Album Chart, became the fastest foreign hip-hop artist to surpass 200,000 copies on Oricon, and became the first K-Pop artist to enter the list of “Top 20 Albums of 2016” by Fuse Magazine!

Besides the impressive record awards, the group also took home the Best Dance Performance Award for “Blood Sweat & Tears” as well as the Gaon K-Pop World Hallyu Star Award.

 

10.  Record of the Year

But the awards for their Wings album were not going to stop! In 2017, Wings won the Record of the Year at the Seoul Music Awards. The group also took home the award for Best Music Video for “Blood Sweat & Tears”!

 

11. Daesang Awards

Despite not being from one of the big 3 entertainment companies, BTS has taken home 4 Bonsang Awards for the past four consecutive years as well as 2 Daesang Awards.

 

12. “Third from the left” and BBMAs

In 2017, BTS also became the first K-Pop group ever to take home a Billboard Award! To top it off, the group also got some major attention for their strong visuals.

 

13. BBMAs 2nd win

Although 2018 is still going strong, BTS has already managed to snag their second Billboard Award! Additionally, they became the first K-Pop group to ever perform at the BBMAs!

 

14. Breaking their own record

Another impressive feat by the boys has to do with their music videos. Their “Fake Love” MV gained the title of “fastest Korean group MV to surpass 150M+ views.” On top of that, the previous record was also held by BTS for their song “DNA”!

 

15. The incredible power of ARMY

And who could forget their fans! ARMY are all over the world and arguably one of the largest fandoms around. ARMY boasts a number of famous members including John Cena, Ansel Elgort, The Chainsmokers, and Steve Aoiki! On top of that, ARMY has been able to promote and raise money for a few different charities proving they are one major force!
