10 References RM’s Lyrics Made In BTS’s “Persona” Comeback Trailer

RM’s lyrics are filled with hidden hints and clues.

BTS‘s comeback trailer is filled with hidden visual references, but the song itself holds many clues too. Here are 10 references RM may have made through the lyrics and music!

1. RM – “Voice”

The lyrics, “I wanna give you all the voices til I die”, references RM’s “Voice”, the first song in his 2015 mixtape.

2. BTS – “Anpanman”

The lines “I dreamt of becoming a superhero / Now it feels like I really became one” may be referencing BTS’s superhero-themed song “Anpanman”.

3. BTS – “Intro: Skool Luv Affair”

If the track in BTS’s “Persona” trailer sounds familiar, that’s because it is. It uses a sampling from this song, which was the first track on the 2014 album Skool Luv Affair.

4. BTS – “RUN”

One says ‘run’ another says ‘stop’“. These lyrics could be referring to this line in “RUN”: “I run, run, run / I can’t stop”.

5. The Bible

“I’m still not so sure if I’m a dog or a pig or what else / But then other people come out and put the pearl necklace on me”. In the Bible there is a very similar quote that RM may be referencing: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”.

6. The Most Beautiful Moment Of Life / Save Me webtoon

“The regrets that I don’t even get sick of anymore / I tumble with them every night until I’m disgusted / And twist the irreversible time habitually”. These lyrics could be alluding to the time-traveling BTS Universe storyline where the members become trapped in a time loop while trying to undo their regrets.

7. But Namjoon

“The three syllables of my name and the word ‘but’ that should come before any of those”. “But Namjoon” is a phrase K-Pop fans use to redirect focus to RM when one of their idols does something problematic, in order to justify their idols’ actions. It refers to RM’s past ‘problematic’ actions, which he has since grown and learned from.

8. WINGS

“Oh do you wanna go? / Do you wanna fly?”. BTS uses the theme of flying in flight in many of their songs, especially during the WINGS era. This line could be connected to any of these songs, including “Outro: Wings”: “If my wings could fly”.

9. “No More Dream”

BTS’s debut song opens with RM repeating “Hey, what’s your dream?”. RM could be doing a throwback to that with the lyrics, “Where’s your soul? where’s your dream?”.

10. RM’s “Speak Yourself” speech

“I just wanna give you all the voices till I die” / “Tell me all your names”. Some fans have suggested that these lines refer to his “Speak Yourself” speech: “I want to hear your voice” / “What is your name? What excites you and makes your heart beat?”.
