The show started off with the MCs coming out of the dressing room in excitement as they headed to stage to host the big event. This year was hosted by Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona, SHINee‘s Minho, ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo, and comedian Noh Hong Chul.

Yoona and Cha Eunwoo had an opening stage, in which they sang TVXQ!‘s “Balloons” and then joined Noh Hong Chul and Minho for a hype performance of PSY’s “Champion” which fans and artists alike, enjoyed.

 

The first section of the night was dedicated to “Global Girl Groups”.

MOMOLAND went first, with a remix of “BBOOM BBOOM” and “BAAM”, after an homage to how viral they went this year.

 

The next global girl group to perform was (G)-I-DLE, with a house version of hit debut song “LATATA”.

 

Then, we went to the streets to meet adorable duo BOL4 as they performed their song “Vacation” with adoring onlookers.

 

Then, Vibe and Ben got us deep in our feelings with Vibe’s “Fall in Fall”, Ben’s “Love,ing” and “180 Degrees”.

 

Next up was iKON with their song that was loved by Koreans of all ages, “Love Scenario”. They performed “Goodbye Road” and a string version of “Love Scenario”.

 

To follow iKON in the “Trendy Music” category was BTOB who showed off their flawless vocals with “Only One For Me”.

 

The siren of K-pop, Sunmi followed with a sexy intro dance to “Siren”. She then headed to the artist section to do the chorus of “Gashina” with all the artists.

 

The MCs then asked a few of the artists which MBC variety show they would like to go on.

WINNER’s Mino answered I Live Alone which he’d like to go on after he moves out from the WINNER member dorm. BTS’s Jungkook said he’d like to go out on King of Masked Singer again and become the king.

 

MAMAMOO‘s Hwasa performed “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You”, a nod to her success as a guest on I Live Alone.

 

The band Norazo performed “I Was Born To Love You” and “Don’t Stop Me Now”, as they also rose to popularity again thanks to appearances onMBC’s I Live Alone and King of Masked Singer.

 

Sun Woo Jung Ah also performed BLACKPINK’s “Whistle”, one of the songs she sang on her way to becoming the Queen of King of Masked Singer.

 

Renowed ballad duo Fly To The Sky’s Hwanhee then performed Baek Jiyoung‘s “Don’t Forget Me”, a song he also performed on King of Masked Singer.

 

Hwanhee and Sun Woo Jung A then collaborated with a lovely rendition of Fly To The Sky’s “Missing You’.

 

The next section was dedicated to the Global Boy Groups, kicked off with NCT Dream, and what happened to be Mark’s final stage with the members.

They started with a dance intro, followed by their two title songs of 2018, “Go” and “We Go Up”.

 

MONSTA X followed with their hard-hitting tracks  “SPOTLIGHT” and “Shout Out” in handsome military-like outfits.

 

Finally, worldwide superstars BTS performed “MIC DROP” (Steve Aoki Remix) to finish off the “Global Boy Group” category and the 1st part of the show.

 

The 2nd part of the show was kicked off with a tribute to the legends of K-Pop, TVXQ!

Wanna One’s Park Woojin, Ha Sungwoon, Hwang Minhyun, Kim Jaehwan, and Bae Jinyoung performed a cover of TVXQ!‘s “Rising Sun”.

 

TVXQ! themselves took to the stage to perform an intro, the iconic “Mirotic”, and “The Chance of Love”. They also performed their newly released, 15th-anniversary song “Truth”.

 

Following them were the artists who represented the New Generation of the 2018 music industry, starting with a performance of H.O.T.‘s “Warrior’s Descendent” by THE BOYZ and Stray Kids. 

 

Then, rookies Golden Child performed their tracks “Let Me” and “Genie” full of young energy!

 

THE BOYZ went next with a future bass version of “No Air” which Hwall started off with a gorgeous dance solo.

 

Next was JYP’s maknae group Stray Kids with the emotional yet powerful “I am YOU”.

 

Next up was the “Girl Spirit” of the 2018 music industry, introduced by Gugudan with a performance of the lively track, “Not That Type”.

 

Following them was Cosmic Girls with a sultry intro followed by “Save me, Save you”.

 

Lovelyz was next, with a performance of “Lost n Found” that was introduced with an ethereal piano solo by Sujeong

 

The idol of trot, Hong Jinyoung took the stage with “Goodbye” and “Ring Ring”, a surprise collaboration with Noh Hong Chul.

 

The third section  was titled FANTASIA, an apt title for the faires of Oh My Girl who performed the sublime “Secret Garden”.

 

Next up was GFRIEND with “Time For The Moon Night”, another one of their powerful yet hyper-feminine tracks.

 

Apink took the stage looking stunning in red,with a femme fatale intro plus their 2018 hit “I’m So Sick”.

 

Baek Ji Young and EXO‘s Chen then pulled off a superb collaboration with Baek Jiyoung’s track “Like Being Hit By A Bullet”.

 

SEVENTEEN then took the stage to perform unit BSS‘s song “Just do it” as a full unit plus their hit song “Oh My”.

 

The next artist to perform was the K-pop kings of fantasy, VIXX with a gorgeous intro plus their dreamy track “Resurrection”.

 

GOT7 followed with another amazing dance intro plus, this year’s hit track “Look”.

 

Next up was a tribute to the legendary godfather of Korean hip-hop, Drunken Tiger. MONSTA X’s IM and Jooheon performed iconic track “Monster” by Drunken Tiger.

Tiger JK then came on stage to perform “8:45 Heaven”.

His wife Yoon Mirae, and Bizzy then took the stage to perform “Left Foot Forward”, “Good Life”, and Mantra alongside him.

 

Following the hip-hop stage was Wanna One with “Light” and debut song “Energetic”, performing in classy black suits.

 

Next up was MAMAMOO with an amazing medley of “Paint Me”, “Wind Flower”, “Starry Night”, and “Egotistic”.

 

All the artists gathered on stage to greeting their fans together as the clocked changed from 11:59 PM on December 31, 2018 to 12:00 AM on January 1, 2019.

Wanna One’s Kang Daniel said thank you to Wanna One, all of the artists, and the fans for working hard at such a busy time. He also hopes that next year they will all walk the flower road!

Wanna One’s Ong Seongwoo added on saying that “although our Wanna One activities have come to an end today, I hope you will remember all of us forever in your hearts.” Hwang Minhyun simply added on with a thank you to Wannable.

 

As 2019 will be Year of the Golden Pig in the Asian zodiac chart, the hosts also spoke to those who were born in the Year of the Pig — BTS’s V and Jimin!

Jimin said that he will work hard to be a better him for those he has to repay for their love and to be a good influence on others.

V stated that in 2019 he hopes they can come out with an even cooler stage and album!

 

GFRIEND‘s Sowon (another 1995’er) let fans know that she just wants to say good job to the members and hopes that next January’s comeback goes well!

 

BOL4‘s Jiyeon said that she hopes to make more music that connects with people in 2019!

iKON‘s Bobby wants to continue to keep receiving love and hopes he has a busy year next year.

 

APink‘s Namjoo simply hopes that everyone’s wishes for 2019 come true and reminded everyone that Apink will also have a comeback next year!

 

VIXX’s Hyuk also hoped that next year was a happy and healthy year for all his members and everyone watching.

 

SEVENTEEN’s Joshua thanked his Carats for giving him so much love in 2018 and just hopes to let the world know more about SEVENTEEN.

 

Then, all the artists and fans counted down and greeted 2019 all together!

 

TWICE kicked off the final performances with their lovely tracks “YES or YES” and “Dance The Night Away”.

 

Next up was WINNER with the swaggy “Everyday” and new track ‘Millions”.

 

Princesses of K-Pop, Red Velvet went next with a dance intro and “Really Bad Boy”.

 

Worldwide superstars BTS performed once more with the title track of Love Yourself:Answer, “IDOL”.

 

Kings of K-Pop, EXO, ended the show with a (very sexy) bang, performing this year’s hits “Love Shot” and “Tempo”.

 

For the finale, all the artists came on stage to sing H.O.T.’s “Light” as they greeted each other and the fans “Happy New Year!”
