She travelled to the country on the promise of a job.

Recently, a focus has been placed on the number of Koreans being kidnapped and trafficked in Cambodia. Earlier this month, a student’s body was discovered, sparking a deeper look at the number of disappearances that occurred when the individual traveled to Cambodia.

Many of these disappearances have been connected to scam crime rings that force trafficking victims to work after kidnapping them upon their arrival.

A woman’s account of being trafficked recently was published in an exclusive by DongA, where she revealed that she was forced to work doing nude livestreams at risk of physical assault.

Usually, these individuals are promised some sort of other job, like in the woman’s case, and travel to the country. In the exclusive published, the woman applied for a job working as a Japanese translator, and travelled to Cambodia on promise of that.

On arrival she was met by a Korean expatriate who came to greet her at the airport. They were identified as a “bit-part actor and model whose name could be found on Korean search portals.

The Korean expatriate who came to greet her at the airport appeared respectable — they were even a bit-part actor and model whose name could be found on Korean search portals. It was last April when 30-year-old Kim Min Ha (alias) arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, after accepting an offer that said, “We’re looking for a Japanese interpreter locally.” The person smiled and reassured her, saying, “It’s an easy job.”
