Why Yoo Yeon Seok Unexpectedly Shed Tears At The Movie Premiere For “My Puppy” Shows His True Personality

He has a heart of gold…en retriever.

Actor and dog-lover Yoo Yeon Seok attended the movie premiere for the film My Puppy, a film directed by Kim Joo Hwan and starring Yoo Yeon Seok and Cha Tae Hyun.

My Puppy is a movie about Min Soo and Jin Guk, played by Yoo Yeon Seok and Cha Tae Hyun respectively, going on a journey to find a new owner for Min Soo’s Golden Retriever that he cannot take care of anymore due to his fiancee’s allergies. Along the way, they discover the heartbreaking truth behind abandoned pets.

At the premiere for My Puppy, the Narco-Saints and Hospital Playlist actor failed to hold back his tears as he said, “We live our lives with our precious dogs by our side, and the time comes when we have to let them go because the pace of life for a dog is very different from the pace of life for humans. This is a very difficult situation so I used to turn a blind eye to this reality.”

He also talked about his own rescue dog, Rita, whom he adopted a year ago: “I’m raising a rescue named Rita, and so these things seem to have had a great impact on me.”

Today is our precious Rita’s birthday! One year ago today, I adopted Rita! I didn’t know the exact date of Rita’s birth, so when I registered her, I registered the adoption date as the birth date. Rita, thank you for being by my side and I love you. 💕 Thank you to everyone who celebrated Rita’s birthday with me!

Slightly embarrassed for crying and constantly saying “I’m sorry you have to see me like this” throughout the interview, Yoo Yeon Seok praised the film for its message about rescue animals and credited the puppies in the film as the real scene stealers. “There was no use rehearsing my lines,” he said with a smile, “Once the dogs wagged their tails and smiled, I was ‘disarmed’… I learned a lot from acting with the dogs.”

Lastly, he said, “I hope that the audience will receive our message and sincerity, and I hope the film will warm their hearts by reminding them of not only the meaning of pets, but the meaning of family.”

My Puppy is set to be officially released on March 1st.
