aespa Karina’s Fans Bombard IVE’s Wonyoung With Criticism After Vicious Fanwar Starts

This is in response to Karina’s recent political controversy.

Over the highly-political week in South Korea leading up to elections, celebrities have been extremely careful about their posts. aespa‘s Karina was caught in crossfire when she uploaded a now-deleted set of photos that netizens have called a “triple slam.” Her post of herself representing not one, but three symbols of the People’s Power Party, the conservative party who’s previous leader started the martial law in 2024, caused a huge stir. She wore red, the color of the PPP, had the number two on her jacket, the number of the PPP, and posted with an emoji of a red rose, the symbol of the PPP.

Naturally, it invited severe backlash despite her apology.

aespa’s Karina Deletes Instagram Post After Sparking Huge Unexpected Controversy

A few days after Karina’s incident, another idol took special care when uploading her photos. IVE‘s Wonyoung uploaded a photo in black and white. The photo was of her at Yonsei’s university festival, hence she was originally wearing blue. Her way of preventing controversy was praised by Korean netizens.

On the other hand, it seemed to have sparked an unintentional fan war. Fans of Karina had begun to accuse Wonyoung of purposely uploading it to make Karina look bad.

They called her behavior “nasty.”

Some took it further and called Wonyoung “shady.”

From being called a pick-me to other names, it seems as if Karina’s international fans are set against Wonyoung.

Some have also crossed the line.

As blood turns sour between both fandoms, the fanwar doesn’t seem like it will end soon.
