ATEEZ San’s New Umbrella In-Ear Design Doesn’t Have The “WooSan” Meaning Fans Expected
Recently, the members of ATEEZ debuted new in-ear monitor designs created by Soundcat. Each member’s in-ear is uniquely designed to represent their individuality, and the results are gorgeous!
Here are the designs for Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, and Yeosang…

Each of the designs are beautiful and meaningful in their own ways, but one member’s in-ear stood out more than the rest: San’s. His design went with a black and dark blue theme, featuring the letter “S” on one ear and an umbrella design on the other.
Most ATINYs could tell you what the significance is of an umbrella to San and, respectively, Wooyoung. The two members are known for their incredibly close bond and friendship and go by the ship name “WooSan”, which translates to “umbrella” in Korean (우산). The two even have matching tattoos of the Latin phrase “Amicus ad aras”, which translates to “friends until death” or “a friend until the end”. It’s a saying that San has long shared with Wooyoung as evidence of just how close and important their relationship with each other is.
Because of this, fans immediately assumed that San had chosen the umbrella design specifically as homage to his friendship with Wooyoung.

However, San recently revealed that he actually wasn’t the one who chose the umbrella design! He shared that he asked the designers to choose something that represents him, and they ended up going with an umbrella because that’s what his name translates to in Hanja.
San about his new in-ear:
“Honestly I didn’t think much abt the design. I just asked them to pick something that represents me. I didn’t design it, I got them designed it for me.

Despite this revelation, though, fans can’t help but think that San agreed to the design in part because of his friendship with Wooyoung. The two of them never shy away from showing affection for each other in any way possible, so having an in-ear design with a dedication to their friendship would be far from abnormal for him!

I honestly don’t know when woosan became a dirty word in the fandom. They have such a beautiful bond. But some people seem ready to fight anytime it is brought up. But it also means Woosan in Korean and he definitely is aware of that since they were the ones who made and actively used that ship name.
