The idol held a live stream to celebrate his return to the industry, during which he shared many stories about his life in the army. That’s when he dropped a funny confession: he lied about his age to his fellow soldiers.

I wanted everyone to feel comfortable with each other. So when we asked about age, I lied, and I said that I was born in 2005. I wanted to be comfortable, but of course, they didn’t believe it.

He simply wanted everyone to feel at ease with each other!

Born in 1997, Jaehyun is 29 years old. Claiming 2005 meant he was pretending to be 21 — a full eight years younger than he actually is. Now, while Jaehyun definitely looks amazing, it’s no wonder his comrades didn’t buy the little white lie.

Fans found the whole thing hilarious. Some even questioned why he didn’t at least pick a more believable year.

Wholesome intentions aside, it clearly didn’t work. Welcome back, 29-year-old Jaehyun!
