MBN‘s new trot survival show Active King is a music entertainment show that will select the top 7 female trot singers to represent Korea in the Korea-Japan Trot King Battle, which will take place in 2024. The show is produced by Seo Hye Jin, known for shows like Mister Trot and Miss Trot.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Daesung would be a “national producer” on the show. This became hot news as it would be Daesung’s return to being a fixed member of a variety show after 12 years. Regarding his return, Daesung expressed his excitement to have fun with his seniors on the show.

Rather than emphasizing the fact I’m returning to variety shows, I’m just happy to have the opportunity to have a good experience with excellent teachers and seniors… I am really looking forward to it.

— Daesung

Daesung is known to be interested in trot music, as he previously released a trot album called Look at Me, Gwisun in 2008 while he was active with BIGBANG. He expressed his love for trot music as one of the first K-Pop idols to pursue trot music.

For me, trot means being able to enjoy and sing on stage without any worries.

Daesung has been active in Korea and Japan, where he swept the Oricon chart and performed at the Tokyo Dome for five consecutive years. When asked about the difference in music activities between Korea and Japan, Daesung shared his thoughts.

It’s just a difference in language, but music has the power to break down language barriers. Through music and performance, which is a means of communicating and expressing who you are, I hope they showcase their various charms and captivate everyone.

He showed his humility by expressing his concern about whether he would be of help to the contestants.

I still have a lot of concerns about how I can help the contestants in Active King. If there is any way I can be of help, I will do my best.

— Daesung

Because of his experience as an active singer in Japan and Korea, Daesung is likely to help the show. Active King is expected to make a sensational impact in trot history with its fresh concept. The first episode is set to be released on November 28 at 10 p.m. (KST).
