Blackface Concept K-Pop Group Goes Viral, Sparking Disbelief — And They’re Still Active

They are still active!

While K-Pop has had many different groups with strange concepts, very rarely has a group shocked internationally the way the first-generation girl group Bubble Sisters did.

A recent post discussing first-generation groups garnered significant attention, revealing the concept of blackface associated with the group.

In 2003, the Bubble Sisters debuted with their album First Impression. The group had skin painted a deep brown, along with being styled in afros and braids.

While performing “Bubble Song,” the group also sported blackface, which allegedly was done due to the members not being confident in their appearance and wanting to go against the idea of what a celebrity should look like.

The group disappeared until 2006, when they returned with two different members and a different image entirely. This line-up and the next released several single albums.

The most recent four membered line-up was active this year, releasing “STEP (Can you feel it),” with an admittedly questionable cover image.
