BLACKPINK’s Jennie Opens Up About Her Fellow Members’ Support For Her Acting Debut
BLACKPINK‘s Jennie officially made her acting debut to an audience of her celebrity peers and press at the 76th Cannes Film Festival when two episodes of the upcoming HBO drama The Idol were screened.
In June 2022, TV Daily stated that Jennie was offered a role on the upcoming HBO series, The Idol. The series was co-created by Canadian singer-songwriter Abel Tesfaye (also known as The Weeknd, Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim.
Her appearance in the show was confirmed when The Weeknd previewed a trailer for the show at his concert, showing Jennie in character.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight from the 76th Cannes Film Festival, Jennie revealed that she filmed for the show last year while BLACKPINK was also filming a music video for their BORN PINK album.
Jennie found herself in Los Angeles for filming, away from her fellow BLACKPINK members, but they always made their presence known by checking in on her daily.
When I was filming for The Idol last year, it was while we were filming the music video for our latest album, BORN PINK… So they just checked in on me every day. They would call me when I was in L.A. shooting, just making sure that I was doing all right on my own.

Jennie also shared that BLACKPINK’s oldest member, Jisoo, had texted her during her Cannes Film Festival debut and sweetly congratulated Jennie.
Today, Jisoo texted me, ‘You look beautiful, I’m so happy for you!’… It’s a nice family that we have.
