BLACKPINK’s Lisa Recounts The Time She Was “Stuck In The Basement” As A K-Pop Trainee

Her journey was a tough one.

BLACKPINK‘s Lisa is undoubtedly one of the top K-Pop stars around. From her numerous luxury endorsements to her millions of YouTube views, she’s proven her success!

This was a long time coming, however, as she had to go through intense training in YG Entertainment from 2011 to 2016 before debuting as the main dancer of BLACKPINK.

YG Entertainment teased fans with a “Who’s That Girl” post of Lisa in 2012 | YG Entertainment

Lisa touched on this tough period in her life in Youth With You 3 after vocal mentor Li Ronghao asked what everyone was doing at 18 years old.

When I was 18? Actually, I debuted when I was 20. So when I was 18, I was stuck in the basement of the company, practicing, practicing.

What was especially difficult for her was how unclear her future was: “I didn’t know when I was going to debut.”

The endless practice sessions, classes, and evaluations made her doubt herself and her capabilities.

I was thinking, like, should I go back to school? Should I go back to Thailand?

— Lisa

Thankfully for fans, she stuck at it until the end!

But yeah, I didn’t go back. And I kept practicing until I debuted.

— Lisa

Because of her perseverance, Lisa is now one of the most popular artists around the globe!
