BTS & BLACKPINK Sweep Multiple Nominations For The MTV EMAs
The nominations for the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards are in! While South Korea certainly isn’t in Europe, that hasn’t stopped two K-Pop acts from sweeping multiple nominations. BTS received the second highest number of nominations for any act this year (five), while BLACKPINK swept three nominations of their own.
BTS’s nominations are as follows:
Best Song: BTS – “Dynamite”
“Dynamite” took Europe by storm, peaking at #1 on Billboard‘s Euro Digital Song Sales chart. Now, it’s earned a “Best Song” nomination too. For this award, BTS will be up against artists like Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.
Best Pop: BTS
The MTV EMAs won’t be boxing BTS into the K-Pop category. After scrapping their usual “Best Korean Act” category, the awards show has nominated BTS for “Best Pop”. For this award, BTS will be up against artists like Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.
Best Virtual Live: BTS – Map Of The Soul
In July this year, BTS broke the record for the most-viewed online concert stream with 756,000 viewers for Bang Bang Con: The Live. Now, the group’s upcoming online concert (Map of the Soul: ON:E) is nominated for “Best Virtual Live. For this award, BTS will be up against artists like Post Malone and J Balvin.
Biggest Fans: BTS
With 31 million followers on Instagram and 29 million followers on Twitter, it’s safe to say BTS has a huge fanbase. That’s why they’ve been nominated for the “Biggest Fans” award. BTS previously won this award back in 2018 and in 2019. Now, they’ll be up against artists like Ariana Grande as well as BLACKPINK.
Best Group: BTS
Finally, BTS wraps up 2020 with a well-earned “Best Group” nomination. They previously won this award back in 2018 and in 2019. Now, they’ll be up against artists like 5 Seconds of Summer as well as BLACKPINK.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s nominations are as follows:
Best Collaboration: BLACKPINK – Ice Cream with Selena Gomez
The highly anticipated “Ice Cream” collaboration between BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez charted across Europe, from the U.K. to Switzerland. So, it’s no surprise the song is nominated for “Best Collaboration” too. For this award, BLACKPINK will be up against artists like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.
Biggest Fans: BLACKPINK
Alongside the millions of followers BLACKPINK have on their group social media accounts, the members are also among the most-followed stars individually. The size of their fanbase has earned them an award nomination for “Biggest Fans”. For this award, BLACKPINK will be up against artists like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Best Group: BLACKPINK
And last but not least, BLACKPINK’s record breaking year brings them a nomination for “Best Group”. For this award, BLACKPINK will be up against artists like Chloe x Halle and Little Mix.
The MTV EMA winners will be determined by the public, so don’t forget to vote for BTS and BLACKPINK.
