BTS Chosen As Leading Contenders On Gold Derby’s 2021 Grammy Predictions List

Will they take home an award in 2021?

On April 5, the Gold Derby posted their 2021 Grammy Predictions for Album of the Year and listed BTS as one of the leading contenders for next year.

Although the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards are not for another year, the eligibility period for the 2021 is currently underway. The eligibility period for 2021 runs from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020 so BTS’s newest album MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 release was perfect timing.

The Grammys have top four general field categories including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. They have changed five nominees to eight nominees starting in 2019 due to the criticism received about the lack of diversity.

The Gold Derby categorized their predictions in three sections: Leading Contenders, Strong Contenders, and Possible Contenders.

BTS’s Map Of The Soul: 7 album, released on February 21, was listed on the Leading Contenders category, making them a high possibility to become a nominee in next year’s ceremony.

Other artists seen on the list alongside BTS include The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Halsey, Camilia Cabello, and more.

BTS first made an appearance at the 2019 Grammys as presenters and was nominated for one Grammy award – for Best Recording Package.

In 2020, BTS made history as the first K-Pop act to perform on the Grammy stage for their collaboration with Lil Nas X for “Old Town Road.”

Fans are excited to see what’s in store for these boys at the 2021 Grammys!
