BTS’s J-Hope Spills His Secret To Being First To Like The Members’ Instagram Posts

It’s definitely not what you’d expect!

Since BTS created their individual Instagram accounts last year, one member became an instant expert, and it was none other than J-Hope!

So, in his new solo interview with Weverse Magazine, Instagram was mentioned a few times.

Interviewer Myungseok Kang asked J-Hope specifically about his Instagram aesthetic, posting instant film photos. J-Hope explained why he initially started it.

I think that was thanks to everything else I saw and what I learned from it. I think it’s become a habit to try and constantly show off everything I’ve learned. So I tried many different ways to see which would be interesting. I hope people found it interesting. (laughs)

J-Hope did reveal, though, that that iconic instant film era has ended for now. He is exploring a more modern style now.

Instant photos are one of the few means of keeping a record where only you get to hold onto the originals. Even though I was going to be sharing my everyday life through Instagram, I thought it would be nice to have a film copy that would belong to me and me alone, so I chose instant photos.

So I posted them, but thought there’s a limit to what I can convey through analog alone, so now I’m covering my Instagram with photos that are more suitable for the modern era.

Additionally, J-Hope explained the difference between how he is on Instagram vs. Weverse. One allows him to be more artistic, and the other is personal communication with ARMYs, respectively.

I wanted to show casual photos I took of myself before in many cases, but now I want to show who I am as an artist, too. I want to use Instagram to show who I am as an artist and use Weverse to say the more honest and open things I want to say to fans. So maybe that’s the reason why my image on Instagram seems so different than before.

Later, the topic of Instagram was brought up again. Myungseok Kang mentioned how J-Hope is famous for being the first to “like” his fellow BTS members’ posts on the photo-sharing app.

…you talk back and forth with the other members on Instagram and tap ‘like’ a lot. Is that a reflection of how much you all need each other?

— Myungseok Kang

Even the members themselves have asked J-Hope how it is possible. Some wondered if he “lives on the app” to do it.

J-Hope: Wow………..

J-Hope: But what is that on the right, above the onion??

Jin: Btw, is your house Instagram?

Jin: You live on Instagram

Suga: the plating here is so pretty

J-Hope: it’s got a feel to it??

Suga: hey hope-ah, do you check Insta in real time

J-Hope: 🔥ambiguous smart world🔥

When Myungseok Kang noted J-Hope’s quick fingers, the rapper spilled his secret about being “first!” It’s not what you’d have expected.

Oh, that. That’s because one of them always just happens to have posted something right before I open Instagram. (laughs) It’s amazing how that works.

J-Hope revealed that it is all purely based on coincidence. Anytime he opens Instagram, someone will have just posted. So, naturally, he taps the heart!

I’ll open Instagram and someone will have posted exactly three minutes earlier. When I see that, I tap the little heart. (laughs)

He added that he especially enjoys connecting with his members through Instagram. Although they have been close for 9+ years, he sees it as another opportunity to get to know them even better!

I have a lot of fun doing that. I think checking out their daily lives there helps me find out things I didn’t already know about how they feel about their own lives.

— J-Hope

J-Hope is truly that friend that we all wish we had! He’ll hype you up IRL and online.
