Education Champion BTS’s Jimin Donates 100 Million Won To Students In South Jeolla Province

Jimin is a true charity angel.

BTS‘s Jimin has proven himself to be a champion of education once again with a donation of ₩100 million KRW ($85,000 USD) to school students in South Jeolla Province, Korea.

On July 29, Jimin’s father, Park Hyun Soo, quietly presented the South Jeolla Office of Education with a ₩100 million KRW donation on his son’s behalf. Today, the Office of Education decided to make the good deed public.

According to reports, the donation is set to be used for scholarship funds, likely to help disadvantaged students in the region attend good schools. With the COVID-19 pandemic still affecting the South Korean economy, donations like Jimin’s will be more useful than ever.

Chairman of the Jeonnam Future Education Foundation, Jang Seok Woong, told the press that the donation will be used carefully to convey Jimin’s good influence to the 220,000 students of South Jeolla Province.

And the donation will bring yet another accolade to this BTS star. The South Jeolla Office of Education revealed they also plan to add Jimin to the South Jeolla Education Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to educational development in the region.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Jimin has made quiet donations to educational development. Just a few months ago, back in February, reports announced that Jimin had donated new desks and chairs to all 1,200 students at his own alma mater, Busan High School of Arts. In 2019, he also donated 100 million won to Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, after paying the uniform costs for all graduating students at his former elementary school in 2018.

Jimin has made a name for himself as a champion of education in his hometown of Busan. However, this is the first time he’s donated to students in South Jeolla Province, making it all the more meaningful. As such, Korean social media has been abuzz with talk of the donation. “장학기금” (scholarship fund) trended at #2 on Twitter in South Korea after the news was revealed, while “BTS 멤버 지민” (BTS member Jimin) reached the top 20 trends.

Meanwhile, netizens on Korean forums are remarking on how “cool” it is that Jimin constantly and quietly donates money to educational causes.
