BTS’s Jungkook Earns Praise For Not Having His Doberman’s Ears And Tail Cut

He chose to keep Bam’s natural looks.

BTS‘s Jungkook is the newest dog father in town! He recently introduced his Doberman, Bam (also known as Bahm), in BTS In The Soop 2, stealing the hearts of ARMYs all over the world.

Dobermans are a highly energetic dog breed who are known for their fierce and elegant appearances. They were originally bred to be guard dogs, a trait that Jungkook himself acknowledged when he told Bam, “You don’t need to be on guard. I can protect myself,” while they were walking.

At the same time, Dobermans are sweet, affectionate dogs. Though they may look tough because of their straight postures and commonly known appearance with their ears up, they’re lovable and happy to just be with their families.

BTS’s Jungkook has proven in simple ways that he’s not like other owners of the same breed. He recognizes the dignity of Bam and has not clipped his ears or tail. The not-so-little pup still has the natural features of a Doberman.

Ear cropping or clipping refers to the process of surgically altering or completely removing a dog’s ears and taping them to stand upright. This was historically done to make it harder to get ahold of the dog and to give them an intimidating appearance to protect their owners.

Now, it is accomplished based on the owner’s preference. It is known for being a painful process for the animals since large sections of their outer ears are cut off, making it illegal in many places including England and Wales.

Docking tails is also often done to Dobermans for aesthetic purposes and to make them less prone to injury. However, it can also be a painful and sometimes traumatic event for the pups especially if the surgery is not handled by a reliable vet.

Unsurprisingly, Jungkook has garnered much praise online for his humane choice.

Jungkook isn’t the only K-Pop idol who recently introduced his Doberman puppy to the public. BLACKPINK‘s Lisa added a dog to her originally cat-only “L Family,” a Doberman named Love. He has also retained his floppy ears and whole tail.
