“I NEED U” was released on April 29, 2015 as the title track for BTS’s third mini album, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.1. On May 5, it broke EXO’s winning streak and took 1st place on SBS MTV’s The Show. Two days later, “I NEED U” went up against San E‘s “Me You” and won BTS their very first 1st place win on KBS‘s Music Bank.

At the time, they couldn’t believe what they had achieved. They cherished their victory and promised to work hard to make ARMY proud in the future.

Five year later, BTS are GRAMMY nominated artists with a room full of trophies and global success, performing “I NEED U” at 2020 KBS Gayo Daechukje. The performance began with a flashback to their Music Bank win and this quote: “The past made me who I am today.”

…and they brought the same passion to the stage that made them who they are today.

Suga, who couldn’t attend the show this year, logged into Weverse to share his thoughts. “It’s the same as five years ago,” he said.
