BTS’s Album Is Officially The First Korean Album To Go Platinum In The US

They are the first K-Pop group to achieve this RIAA certification.

2020 has just begun, but BTS is already making history!

As of January 16, 2020, BTS’s 2018 album LOVE YOURSELF: Answer has received an official certification from The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for going platinum in the US. This makes BTS the first Korean artist in music history to achieve this!

To be certified platinum by RIAA standards, 1 million album units must be sold in the US. That’s twice as many units as a certified gold album, which must sell 500,000. LOVE YOURSELF: Answer and BTS’s 2019 album MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona previously became the first Korean albums to become certified gold.

In addition to LOVE YOURSELF: Answer going platinum, its title track, “IDOL“, has also been recognized for achieving platinum status. “IDOL” is now the third BTS single to be certified platinum, following “Boy With Luv” and “MIC Drop”.

With more than 3.42 million MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 albums already purchased through preorder, BTS’s 2020 album might just become the second Korean album to reach platinum status!
