BTS And Samsung Team Up To Save The Planet
Since last year, Samsung has been teasing its next collaboration with Global Ambassador BTS.
We could only suspect it was a new BTS version of one of the Galaxy phones based on some teasers.
You haven't forgotten about the #GalaxyZFlip3 yet, have you? We still need to talk. #GalaxyxBTS @BTS_twt

Then in January, Samsung continued to drop BTS-filled teasers leading up to the annual Samsung Galaxy Unpacked. On January 28 morning (EST), Samsung Mobile tweeted mysteriously, “7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Stay Tuned.”

It was surely a great marketing tactic on Samsung’s part as ARMYs attempted to guess which member was which based on just their backs.
Switch jimin and jin, Thats not jimin shoulders and thats not jins butt 😀

Finally, on February 9, at 10 AM EST/February 10, 2022, at 12 AM KST., Samsung held the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, revealing all of the new devices and products for the year. Included in the event was also a special guest feature from the ambassadors BTS.
Hang tight for an epic reveal 😉 If you haven’t tuned in yet, what are you waiting for? 👉 https://t.co/DIakqCJlkZ #GalaxyxBTS #SamsungUnpacked pic.twitter.com/mbv9kWC2u8

However, BTS didn’t introduce a new phone. Instead, they helped introduce something even greater: a new global campaign, Galaxy for the Planet.
BTS and Samsung Galaxy share a powerful message about protecting our planet. Let’s rethink the life of a product and work together for a better future.
With Suga‘s remix of Galaxy’s iconic “Over the Horizon” tune playing, each member one by one held signs that together informed viewers on the environmental crisis.
In a move that combines sustainability and innovation, Samsung Electronics developed a new material that gives ocean-bound plastics new life as they’re incorporated into various Galaxy devices. Made with repurposed ocean-bound discarded fishing nets, the use of this material marks another step in our Galaxy for the Planet journey that aims to minimize our environmental footprint and help foster more sustainable lifestyles for the Galaxy community.
Specifically, the members communicated how detrimental plastics are to the oceans as they are being polluted. Not only is the planet itself horribly affected, but so are the sea animals that inhabit the oceans.
Now and into the future, Samsung will incorporate repurposed ocean-bound plastics throughout our entire product lineup, starting with our new Galaxy devices that will be revealed on February 9th at Unpacked. These devices will reflect our ongoing effort to eliminate single-use plastics and expand the use of other eco-conscious materials, such as recycled post-consumer material (PCM) and recycled paper. With this transformation, the future of Galaxy technology will bring leading product design and deliver better environmental impact.
Samsung is doing its part by having the Galaxy S22 Series packaging entirely made from recycled paper. They encourage customers to do their part by recycling all used products.
When you think of ‘ocean-bound plastic’, you likely envision a water bottle or a grocery bag drifting on the ocean surface. What may not come to mind is a more hidden threat – the 640,000 tons of fishing nets that are abandoned and discarded every year. Lingering in our oceans for centuries, these ‘ghost nets’ are responsible for trapping and entangling marine life, damaging coral reefs and natural habitats and even ending up in our food and water sources. These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate. Collecting and repurposing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean as well as preserving the planet and our collective future.
At the end of the video, the members come together with signs reading, “LET’S WORK TOGETHER FOR A BETTER FUTURE.” In doing so, they encourage others to join them as we know BTS “are not seven with you.”
Samsung has always pushed the boundaries of mobile technology, and the company is now looking to do the same with its sustainability practices. By giving new life to discarded fishing nets that would otherwise become dangerous waste, Samsung – through its creative solution – exemplifies how we can all do more with less to conserve our planet’s resources.
On the newsroom page for its website, Samsung has gone into even further detail on what the company is doing to help save the planet. Samsung recognizes that we can not just technologically advance if we don’t also care for our environment.
Samsung is committed to addressing ocean plastic pollution in a way that will positively impact not only the environment but also the lives of all Galaxy users. This new technological advancement marks a notable achievement in the company’s journey to deliver tangible environmental actions and protect the planet for generations to come. Repurposing ocean-bound plastics is just the first step in our collective mission to address the climate crisis, and Samsung looks forward to using our scale, innovation and open collaboration to uncover additional solutions.
Samsung has revealed not just this new campaign but also answers to something from the past. We now know what BTS were up to when they recently reunited. It wasn’t just because of a sweet treat bungeoppang.

And, of course, we know it was all for a good cause. BTS never fail to make us proud. They continue to use their platform for good, raising awareness on important issues.
From their LOVE MYSELF campaign with UNICEF for self-love and anti-violence…
Since 2017, LOVE MYSELF has generated almost five million tweets and more than 50 million engagements, such as likes, retweets, replies and comments, according to a new analysis* in UNICEF’s flagship report, The State of the World’s Children 2021, launched yesterday.
…to another ambassadorship. With Hyundai, they raise awareness for sustainable living.
The environment is an issue that BTS are especially passionate about clearly. Last year, they spoke about climate change at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as special presidential envoys to President Moon Jae In.
We can certainly all get behind BTS’s messages of hope and change. Watch BTS’s full Galaxy for the Planet video below:
