Why BTS’s Suga Is Starting His Military Training — 6 Months After His Original Enlistment

Over the last year and a half, the members of BTS have enlisted for their mandatory service, with Jin being the first to go in December 2022 and then Jungkook and Jimin being the final two members in December 2023.

Suga officially enlisted in September 2023 and is completing alternative service as a social worker.

Unlike the other members, there were no official posts showing Suga after he enlisted. Yet, when the final four members enlisted, Suga was shown in the photos officially posted by the BTS Twitter page.

On March 28, ARMYs were confused when Korea Dispatch shared a tweet with a video saying, “Military Enlistment BTS Suga.” On the thumbnail, there was a photo of the Nonsan training site with old photos of Suga and Jin imposed.

The video itself on YouTube was titled “Suga (BTS) Enlisting in the Military.”

In the video, they showed cars entering the Nonsam training center, similar to what happened when the other members enlisted. While neither Suga nor Jin was seen, it is assumed they were in the cars.

According to a statement from BIGHIT to Korean news outlet Osen, Suga entered the base for his three-week basic training. According to the article, Suga entered the military and started his service as a social worker, but it was based on the “pre-service post-entry system.” It is a system that sees someone enter the training center and receive basic military training at the time designated by the Military Manpower Administration after starting service.  After the training, he will return back to his position.

It was reported by Dispatch that Jin was there to see him off, as he was with many of the other members. When the news was shared, ARMYs shared their reactions.

While all the members have now enlisted, Jin is due to be the first to complete his service and will be discharged in June.
