Childhood Assault, Multiple Personalities, And Breast Surgery Goals— A Personal Trainer’s Shocking Story Leaves Viewers Stunned
On August 11, KST, KBS Joy‘s variety show Ask Us Anything, Fortune Teller, brought in a guest whose story has sparked nuanced discussions about childhood trauma and mental health struggles, especially of those with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder).
The guest in question, a male fitness trainer, left the hosts completely taken aback when he appeared on set wearing a long brown wig and a skirt. He introduced himself as an individual with three identified personalities— Oh Sung Jin, a man in his 40s with 19 yeard of fitness training experience; Kang Soon, a woman in her 30s who represents his childhood self; and “the manager,” an alter who is highly protective of personal information.

The guest also mentioned that he had more than five personalities, but only three of them had been identified. After seven years of psychological treatment, all his alters had gotten aware of one another.

Aside from DID, he also experienced gender identity disorder and depersonalization disorder. He explained that despite taking testosterone injections, his female personality didn’t disappear. So, he started taking female hormones and even has plans to get breast augmentation and facial surgery this year. However, he also expressed his concern about making a living moving forward.

Oh also shared that his psychological struggles were triggered by his severely traumatic childhood. From the age of five until starting elementary school, he was sexually assaulted. He believed that the gender identity struggles stemmed from that trauma but it wasn’t until his military service that he became fully aware of his own condition.

He also mentioned that the female alter, Kang Soon, wanted to fully take over, but his male alter, Oh Sung Jin, couldn’t stand it. The hosts noted that the reason why the guest was only planning to get breast surgery and no lower-body procedures was probably because Oh Sung Jin wouldn’t allow it.
The guest candidly touched upon his struggles as someone living with multiple personalities, noting that he got criticized for swinging between a male and a female alter. He also talked about his family— his wife and twins, expressing his worries about being able to support them financially after getting the surgery. He admitted that his young children were completely oblivious of his condition but his wife had stood by him since he began his treatment.
