The first episode recently aired, showcasing dancers from across the world all gathering to showcase their talent.

Yet, one video ahead of the next episode has gained a lot of criticism from fans. In the video for the preview, one of the dancers was seen after her dance battle with international contestant Latrice.

After the battle, the contestant was seen explaining that she thought the results were “unfair,” but referring to Latrice’s build rather than her talent.

To be honest… I felt like this is so unfair… It looked like she didn’t put in the effort… I kept thinking that she won because of her physical build… I bit my tongue and did it because I really wanted it.

After the comment, which even had the dancers shocked, Latrice hit back with her own response, sharing that she doesn’t see her as a rival anymore. It wasn’t surprising that the video then cuts to Latrice seemingly crying, although it’s not confirmed the incidents were linked.

When the video was shared online, fans expressed their anger at the “racial” motives behind the comment. In particular, rather than focusing on Latrice’s talent, the contestant put the win down to her “Physique.”

Yet, while it wasn’t surprising that the comments gained a lot of negative reactions from international fans, many found it reassuring that many comments on the original YouTube video from Korean fans felt the same.

One comment mainly shared their anger. The OP explained that while commenting on people’s build might be common in Korea, for a global show, it was “embarrassing” and that the show should’ve removed it so there would not be any misunderstandings.

They told Audrey that all they saw was her face, that she was just a doll with a pretty face, and other insults. Now they’re saying something about her physical build. It’s really embarrassing that they’ve gained popularity globally. In Korea, it’s somewhat common to judge people based on their appearance and physique, but overseas, it’s truly rude. It’s an issue that can even sound like racial discrimination. Even if Korean dancers misspoke, it should have been edited out during the editing process. What a disgrace this is… If the production team wants to label the program as ‘global,’ they should adopt the appropriate standards and attitudes. It’s really so embarrassing.

— OP

While the comment could easily have been taken out of context or “evil-edited,” like is very common in Mnet shows, it isn’t surprising that fans are angry. In particular, with such a global fanbase and contestants from across the world, Mnet should have taken extra care.
