On September 4, the girl group H1-Key appeared on MBC FM4U’s Kim Shin Young’s Hope Song at Noon. One of the members, Hwiseo, was not able to join due to her schedule.

The host, Kim Shin Young, mentioned the last time H1-Key visited the radio show, which was during their promotions for “Rose Blossom.” At the time, H1-Key stated they wanted to have a beef dinner when their promotions ended. This time, when Kim Shin Young asked if they got that beef dinner, member Seoi said they did, thanks to their CEO.

At that time, our CEO listened to the radio broadcast in real-time, so we had a beef dinner. We were grateful!

Then Kim Shin Young brought up Young K, the lyricist for “Rose Blossom.” She asked the H1-Key members if it was true that there was a new nickname for Young K. They confirmed, and Seoi shared what the nickname was.

We call him the ‘mother of music.’

— Seoi

This nickname may be coined because the lyrics for “Rose Blossom” made it rise in popularity over a month after its initial release. Whereas many songs chart when it is first released, “Rose Blossom” was discovered by listeners later on. One of the factors that may have impacted the late rise in popularity was singer Mijoo mentioning how much she loves this song multiple times on her Instagram story.

She later talked about the song on singer Jo Hyunah‘s YouTube talk show Jo Hyunah’s Thursday Night, bringing the song even more attention. She said the song brought her to tears when she needed encouragement and even danced to it on the show.

Eventually, H1-Key and Mijoo filmed a dance challenge for the song together.

Young K’s lyrics for “Rose Blossom” use the image of a rose growing beautifully between buildings in a city, even though it doesn’t get proper sunlight, as a metaphor for one’s determination to bloom despite everything being against them.

With such an uplifting message that even made Mijoo swoon for the song, it’s no wonder Young K is named the “mother of music.

[Verse 1]
A rose blossoming among the concrete
Please be alive
Thrive and grow, don’t snap
A blanket of thorns
How tough it must’ve been
Thank you for standing strong

[Pre-Chorus]
By some, the ugly flowers are picked on and snapped off
By others even the pretty are picked and end up wither
Why can’t you just let them be
Just mind your own business
I’ve been through worse
I’ve been through the wringer, hey

[Chorus]
I’m a rose among the concrete (Oh-oh, oh-oh)
Until this bleak city becomes filled with color (Woah-oh-oh)
I’ll keep my head up, stand my ground until the very end (Oh-oh, oh-oh)
Until they get drunk off of my scent and smile

[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
No, I’m not goin’ down, I’ll be alright
Yeah, I’m only goin’ up and I’ma be alright
Hey

[Verse 2]
“I didn’t want any of this” I can say
I can hate but nothing will change
Looking back now
I see the me with eyes forward
Standing strong getting’ by moment to moment
Didn’t think much just believed in me

[Pre-Chorus]
Sharp winds may blow
To cut my skin
All these worms they keep
Bugging me, digging inside
But no I’ll never back down
I’ll never be defeated
I’ve been through worse
I’ve been through the wringer

[Chorus]
I’m a rose among the concrete
Until this bleak city becomes filled with color (Woah-oh-oh)
I’ll keep my head up, stand my ground until the very end (Woah-oh-oh)
Until they get drunk off of my scent and smile

[Post-Chorus]
Keep it up
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
It’s a song for you and I
Say that we’re alive, celebrate it now
[Chorus]
I’m a rose among the concrete
Until this bleak city becomes filled with color (Woah-oh-oh)
I’ll keep my head up, stand my ground until the very end (Oh-oh, oh-oh)
Until they get drunk off of my scent and smile

[Post-Chorus]
Keep it up
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
No, I’m not goin’ down, I’ll be alright
Yeah, I’m only goin’ up and I’ma be alright
Hey
Keep it up
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
No, I’m not goin’ down, I’ll be alright
Yeah, I’m growin’ up and I’ma be alright
Hey
