Netizens Express Anger After ENHYPEN’s Jungwon Is “Disrespected” By “Hurtful” Comments During A Fan Call

Video call etiquette is often debated.

Fan calls are among the newest developments in interactions between fans and K-Pop idols following the COVID-19 pandemic. Like traditional fan sign events, fan calls allow fans worldwide to talk to their favorite idols one-on-one.

Most fan calls go well for both parties, as fans can create a nice memory with their favorite stars.

Unfortunately, many fan calls that gain the most attention do so because of some negative experience. For example, a fan call with ENHYPEN’s Jake went viral as netizens reacted to the “racist” comments the person speaking with him made.

While speaking to Jungwon, a fan told the idol that they had recently become interested in another idol because it had been a while since they had met. The idol answered good-naturedly, asking who and then calling the fan “honest” when they gave an actual answer.

Fan: It’s been a while since we last met, so I’ve become interested in someone else lately.
Jungwon: Who is it? Who?
Fan: RIIZE’s Sungchan
Jungwon: Oh, haha. You’re honest! I thought it was going to be a lie.

The fan later stated it was a joke; however, netizens did not find the video funny. Instead, many reflected on how Jungwon had previously discussed his fears of fans no longer liking the group, making this kind of “joke” hurtful and disrespectful.

Ultimately, fans want their idols to have a good time during the fan calls, and not deal with any situations that could possibly make them uncomfortable.
