EXO‘s Kai‘s father passed away May 7, 2018 and Kai is now at the mortuary, grieving his loss.
His teammates and agency associates are visiting to send condolences to Kai.
An SM Entertainment associate reported, “Kai’s father passed away due to a chronic illness.”
“Kai’s family would like to hold the funeral privately, with family and relatives only.” — SM Entertainment
The agency sent condolences and asked that Kai and his family are given time to recover from this loss.
“Please be considerate of the family. May Kai’s father’s soul rest in peace.” — SM Entertainment
Meanwhile, Kai’s shooting schedule for his K-Drama The Miracle We Met has been postponed to make sure he has enough time to hold the funeral and recover from the loss.
In the past, Kai mentioned his father on an episode of Knowing Bros, explaining his father is the reason he is an EXO member now.

Kai stated he later became extremely grateful to his father for pushing him to audition and pursue the dream of becoming a singer. As Kai’s motivation and support system, Kai’s father raised him to become a fine artist the world adores.
