EXO video director accuses MAMA of plagiarizing EXO’s concerts
MAMA has been accused of using video content created by EXO’s director, without permission.
MAMA 2016 featured some memorable performances and videos, including a cute introduction video featuring popular girl groups TWICE and I.O.I.
And while fans praised the short scene for its originality, one director has accused the awards show of stealing his idea. The video featured the girl groups as hyperactive versions of themselves, with their actions and voices sped up for comedic effect.
The director, Kwon Soonwook, noticed that the concept for the video appeared to be a direct copy of his “Coffee Fairy” scene he filmed with male group EXO for their EXO’rDIUM concert, with even small details mirroring his video.
On top of the similar coloring and lighting, the MAMA 2016 video even used similar props, such as a conveyor belt. On his Twitter account, Kwon Soonwook tweeted, “They plagiarized the Coffee Fairy and Music Fairy video I made for Exolution and Exodium ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Let’s not do that….”
내가 만든 커피요정과 음악요정의 엑솔루션과 엑소디움 영상을 그대로 배꼈네 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
