Broadcaster Ahn Sun Young sparked controversy for comparing women to old houses or cars.
On the 18th, Ahn Sun Young uploaded a video titled Top 3 Procedures I Regret Spending 50 Million Won On on her YouTube channel.
The video mainly features Ahn Sun Young sharing her thoughts on various procedures she has undergone, with the controversial remarks appearing early in the video.
First, the YouTube production team asked Ahn Sun Young, “There is a wave of procedures these days. Our country’s specialties are idols, semiconductors, and isn’t the third plastic surgery?”
Ahn Sun Young responded with “Ding dong dang” (correct answer tone), and said, “First, houses, cars, and women. Nowadays it’s the same for men, but let’s call them people. The commonality among these three is that maintenance costs increase as the years go by, and no matter how much you clean or polish before repairs, they look ugly.”
Then she added, “A little interior remodeling, a little tuning on the car. We live in a 100-year lifespan era. People who manage themselves well look younger, and a time has come when they receive much more applause than those who don’t.”
She continued, “If I say this, some might say it’s boasting, but by the nature of my job, I think it’s necessary to invest about 5-10% of my income into my body. Depreciation happens, so there’s no way around it. You have to reinvest to keep working with this face.”
After the video was released, some criticized Ahn Sun Young’s remarks. The criticism stems from her comparing women to objects and seemingly praising superficial beauty standards. Especially the parts where she likened women’s appearance and age to “years,” “maintenance,” and “costs” drew severe criticism.
In response, as critical comments appeared in the comment section, the YouTube production team deleted some comments. When a user asked, “Are you deleting comments?” the team replied, “Yes. I’m the producer. We delete comments that the cast might find offensive.”
