It was traced back to a portable battery.

A fire incident occurred on an Eastar Jet flight en route from Bangkok to Incheon, causing a scare among the 181 passengers on board.

The incident took place early on the morning of July 12, as the aircraft approached Incheon Airport. According to Yonhap News, smoke began to fill the cabin when a passenger attempted to use two connected portable batteries.

Thankfully, the crew’s quick and calm response prevented any injuries.

As soon as the smoke was detected, the flight attendants doused the flames with water, effectively putting out the fire. Eastar Jet confirmed that there were no casualties and that the incident was managed without any delays to connecting flights.

An official from Eastar Jet reassured that the plane underwent a thorough inspection following the incident. They emphasized that safety protocols were promptly executed, ensuring the situation was handled efficiently and effectively.

Sadly, such incidents are not isolated. In April, a similar situation occurred on an Asiana Airlines flight from Gimpo to Jeju. During that flight, smoke was noticed coming from a portable battery stored in an overhead compartment. The Asiana flight was able to land in Jeju without incident, but subsequent flights experienced minor delays due to safety checks.

Eastar Jet and Asiana Airlines both highlighted their commitment to passenger safety and the thorough execution of emergency protocols to handle such incidents.
