Amber Reveals The Story Behind Her New Break Up Song, “Other People”

The song draws on her own breakup experience.

f(x)‘s Amber is back with a new track and an empowering message for anyone who’s ever gone through a break up.

On November 6, Amber dropped “Other People”, a post-breakup song and MV that draw on her personal experience. How do you get over an ex? According to the lyrics, by replacing them with other (better) people.

I’m replacing you replacing you
replacing you with other people

— “Other People” lyrics

The MV opens with Amber’s ex, played by actor Sam Li, tied to a chair with duct tape over his mouth. He has no choice but to listen to her words and watch her move on by replacing him with friends, good times, and eventually, a new boyfriend.

On Instagram, Amber opened up about the song by describing her own healing process.

After the break up, I made a lot of mistakes and did a lot of dumb things. I’m so thankful for the friends that got me through it. You know who you are ;) I’m slowly learning that it’s better to replace the negativity with positivity, whether that be negative situations or people. Learning to replace the “fool” with puppy cuddles, making music, going to escape rooms, watching anime, working out….and with boba :] Dedicated to everyone who needs more positivity in their life. What are YOU going to replace the negative with?
